First, Philosophy...
In today’s overcrowded pickup market, we’re not here to convince you about “voodoo”, “mojo”, or being the best in some mystical absolute sense, or crowding the space even more with generic, gimmicky products with fancy names. Tone is subjective: what sounds “right” is simply what your ears have been trained to recognize after decades of recorded guitar that suits your personal preference. That’s why we use a different yardstick: precision.
The Genesis philosophy rests on three truths:
1. Tone is subjective.
What players call “good tone” is really just a familiar frequency filter – the legendary guitar sounds imprinted in between our ears, and the derivatives thereof. Pickups are the first filter in that chain. Your personal tonal preference shaped by your curated familiarities is what makes tone feel “right” TO YOU.
2. No need to reinvent the wheel.
The tones we love already exist. There’s no new gimmick that will get you closer to them than simply recreating the exact filters used in the first place. No shortcuts. No voodoo. Some of us eventually grow out and find our own sound, sure, but the building blocks that we start with are nothing new.
3. Precision is much more meaningful.
The highest form of tone chasing is reconstruction, not reinvention. We track down specific reference guitars whose tones are preferred by many, down to the serial number, and reverse-engineer their pickup behavior with obsessive accuracy. Not “inspired by”, not “xyz-style”. Identical, where physics allows. (See “About Genesis” for our approach).
The goal is simple: so you can finally say, “My pickups are dialed, as good as they get. Time to hunt for wood, pedals and amps.”
Frequently Asked Questions
When can you ship my pickups?
We do have a lead time as all of our pickups are made to order by hand with extensive QC. Please refer to our Policies page to learn more about current timing.
Important: we prioritize quality over speed. While we usually meet our projected timelines, certain builds may take longer than expected—most often due to additional QC adjustments or fine-tuning. We kindly ask that customers avoid repeated order-status inquiries. Every minute spent answering emails is a minute not spent at the bench, ensuring your pickups are as perfect as they can be.
What is your return policy?
Generally, all sales are final – we are a small shop and we are willing to work things out in a reasonable, good-faith fashion. Please refer to our Policies for details.
Will the pickups fit my guitar?
Our pickups fit most Made in USA (MIA) Stratocasters®, 52mm pole to pole. If your guitar is made in Mexico or Asia, there is a chance you’d need new pickup covers depending on the specific model.
Pickup heights recommendations?
The short answer is no. We encourage you to explore the ideal pickup height for your guitar based on your strings, playing style, and musical preferences. While we can offer general guidelines, they may not be truly helpful, especially since you’ve already taken the step of customizing your tone with our specialized pickups.
